Lilax by Arsenio Zignoto

Sheherazade
December 14th 2019 to February 2020

The following quote, from the song Tiptoe Through the Tulips by Tiny Tim, was selected by Arsenio Zignoto as an accompaniment to his exhibit Lilax at Sheherazade in 2019 - 2020:

Come tip-toe to the window. By the window, that’s where I’ll be. Come tip-toe thru the tulips with me. Shades of night are creeping, willow trees are weeping. Old folks and babies are sleeping. Silver stars are gleaming, all alone I’m scheming.  Scheming to get you out here, my dear. Come tip-toe to the window; by the window, that’s where I’ll be. Come tip-toe thru the tulips with me. Come on out and pet me, come and “Juliet” me. Tease me and slyly “coquette” me. Let me Romeo you, I just want to show you how much I’m willing to do for you. Come tip-toe to the window; by the window, that’s where I’ll be. Come tip-toe thru the tulips with me. Tip-toe from your pillow, to the shadow of a willow tree, and tip-toe thru the tulips with me. Knee deep in the flowers we’ll stray. We’ll keep the showers away; and if I kiss you in the garden, in the moonlight, will you pardon me? Come tip-toe thru the tulips with me.

Arsenio Zignoto is an enigmatic artist and composer who has performed with various experimental musical groups in Louisville for over decade. His recent and ongoing music collaborations include Softcheque, Deep Pockets with Aaron Rosenblum, Ghost Stripper, and Jackie O Motherfucker. His live solo sound work has included a performance at SONIC Bernheim featuring altered field recordings of frogs, and a 2012 project called Raw Thug, which featured a mosh pit of children playing Casio keyboards. Zignoto received a Masters in Electronic Media and Audio Recording at Mills College in 2015. Lilax will be the artist’s first solo visual art exhibition; the new, site-specific sound installation at Sheherazade will feature three autoplaying pianos and found objects.
